HMA History
Hospitality Management Associates, LLC (HMA) was founded in 1998 by Dan Mercurio,
John Klimpel and Huck Oberlin and was formed to manage the Holiday Inn Southwest
Viking. Under HMA’s leadership, the hotel became the number one quality hotel in
the Holiday Inn St. Louis Region surpassing all 26 other Holiday Inns.
In 1998, HMA purchased and managed the Holiday Inn Express – Lincoln, NE.
Then in 1999, HMA took over management of the Super 8 in Washington, MO. Also in
1999, HMA became the owner / operators of the Holiday Inn – South County Center
property in St. Louis. During 2000, HMA added two additional properties to their
portfolio, the Doubletree Club Hotel – St. Louis Riverport and the Hampton Inn –
Heritage Park Lincoln, NE. HMA immediately invested $1.5 million and repositioned
the Doubletree Club Hotel as a Holiday Inn. Both locations added to HMA’s already
strong presence in these two markets. Since 2001, HMA has added two to three hotels
each year.
Today, HMA owns quality brands such as Holiday Inn, Best Western,
Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Super 8 and Comfort Inn. Throughout the years,
HMA properties have won numerous awards from Intercontinental Hotels Group, Hilton
Hotels and Cendent Hotel Group. HMA will continue to add hotels throughout the Midwest.
Our goal today is the same as it was in 1998...To provide the best return for our
investors, the best value for our guests and the best work environment for our staff.
